The Lachlan Trust

The Lachlan Trust is a charity registered in Scotland (SC032246) in 2001. We aim to conserve the buildings and places connected to Clan Maclachlan.

In 2006, we successfully completed a £100,000 project to conserve Kilmorie Chapel, a scheduled ancient monument and burial place of the Maclachlan clan chiefs. The work was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Historic Scotland and many individual donors especially the worldwide Maclachlan clan. It won a national Green Apple award for environmental and architectural conservation.

The conservation of Old Castle Lachlan is our next project. We have a 40 year lease on the site from the owner, clan chief Euan Maclachlan of Maclachlan. Historic Scotland, the government agency that protects historic sites, is working with us and has agreed our conservation plans.

The trustees of the Lachlan Trust are:
Donald Maclauchlan, Executive Trustee
Euan Maclachlan of Maclachlan, 25th of Maclachlan
Charles Maclachlan, younger of Maclachlan
Ian Maclachlan
Michael Thorndyke
Bob Gilcrist

The project director for the conservation of Old Castle Lachlan is:
Marion Bowman

The Lachlan Trust is closely associated with the Clan MacLachlan Society which has several branches around the world. The Canadian branch of the Clan Society has also set up a charitable trust, Lachlan Trust of Canada, to support fund-raising for our project and has already made several generous donations. See www.preserveancestralscotland.ca for their prize draw which features some valuable prizes.
