Strathlachlan and Beyond
Strathlachlan is a quiet stretch of Argyll on the east side of Loch Fyne south of the village of Strachur. It is the historic homeland of the worldwide Maclachlan clan. Strathlachlan is close to the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, the Firth of Clyde, and Oban, the launching point for visits to a string of Hebridean islands. The island of Bute, the historic town of Inveraray, and the regional centre of Dunoon, with a good range of shops and frequent ferries across the Clyde, are all within easy reach. Glasgow and Prestwick airports are easily accessible and the city of Glasgow is one and a half hours away. Edinburgh is two and a half hours by car.
Come and visit us
Old Castle Lachlan is the focal point for Strathlachlan, dominating Lachlan Bay where the B8000 road meets the loch about six miles south of Strachur. There is parking at Inver Cottage Restaurant, which as well as great food has beautiful views of the Old Castle and where the coastal trails that lead to the castle begin. There is more parking space at Kilmorie Chapel where the Maclachlan clan chiefs are buried. Also nearby is Strathlachlan’s charming Georgian church, built in 1792. It holds a small collection of clan memorabilia. Strathlachlan Community Centre, the former school that served the children of this remote Highland community, is nearby. The major building of the area is 'new' Castle Lachlan, which is not open to the public but which can be seen from the viewpoint at Inver Cottage and Lachlan Bay.
