Eating & Staying

A highlight of any visit to Old Castle Lachlan is Inver Cottage restaurant, coffee house, craft gallery and shop. Inver Cottage is one of the best-loved small restaurants in Scotland, regularly winning glowing write-ups from customers and restaurant reviewers. It specialises in fresh, local, sustainably produced food, expertly cooked and served in a relaxed, friendly and cosy setting with spectacular views of Old and New Castle Lachlan.

Inver Cottage was built by the 7th chief of Clan Maclachlan as a croft and ferryman's cottage. It was converted into a restaurant by the 24th chief, Madam Marjorie Maclachlan of Maclachlan, and opened in 1968. Its designer was one of Scotland's top architects and conservationists, Geoffrey Jarvis. It is now run by a grand-daughter of Madam Marjorie, Jasmine, and her husband, musician Joe McAlinden. They regularly host a wide range of events for the community and private clients as well as offering wonderful food and hospitality to Inver's many fans. Inver Cottage is closed for part of the winter. For more about Inver Cottage go to www.invercottage.com
